The CAXM Series external hard drive delivers reliable storage expansion and the incredible 3.0Gbps transfer speed of eSATA, all in one sleek aluminum package. The transfer speed, at six times faster than USB 2.0, will blow you away; it's made possible with our easy-to-install eSATA bracket kit (included). The external hard drive's solid aluminum enclosure boasts exceptional heat dissipation for near-silent, fan-less operation. The CAXE is remarkably durable, offering state-of-the art shock absorption and superior all-around performance, and its stackable design gives you a streamlined, uncluttered workplace.

Customer Rating: Summary: Good drive for the price and quality Comment: Dependable external drive...No issues with plug-n-play on 32-bit operating systems...However, Will not plug-n-play esata connection on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit......The esata connection does plug-n-play on 32 bit systems......Other than the esata issue, it is a dependable, quiet external drive....
Customer Rating: Summary: Total failure after just over a year. Comment: In some ways I wish I'd had the problem one reviewer listed, i.e., that the drive failed within two weeks. Then I wouldn't have lost the data stored there over the last year. Yes, we know to "back up"--the problem is THIS junk drive WAS my backup. Of course programs aren't the issue; personal files are. With digital media, backing up to DVDs or even Blu-ray isn't realistic. So, my archive copies are lost, and many of them had become my only "raw" copy. My advice: Stay away! External drives have become the economical choice for backing up data, and this means reliablility is crucial. Redundant internal drives are the safer but slightly more complex option, but it is the only option I will use for backup from now on!
Customer Rating: Summary: Does the job. Comment: Not the quietest HDD I've used, but it stores information. I've had it a few months and had no problems so not sure about the reliability, but so far so good. The cheapest 1TB HDD I could find and it does the job.
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect backup hard drives Comment: This is the perfect backup solution.
Here's the deal, people... You don't need your backup drives to be 100% reliable. You just need two drives to be less expensive than one drive. No drive is 100% reliable. ANY -- and I mean ANY two drives are more reliable than any one drive.
Here's what you do:
Buy two drives.
Copy everything to drive #1 the first time you backup.
Next time, copy everything to drive #2.
Repeat.
You will always have THREE copies of your data (with the exception of the newest stuff, of which you will only have two copies). The probability of any one drive failing at a time is high enough to warrant having a backup. The probability of TWO drives failing, simultaneously... is almost zero.
Buy two, alternate which one you use to do your backup. Simple as that. This drive is perfect for the most intelligent backup solution you can do. Reasonably fast, too. I'm currently backing up 731GB of data and on track to finish in under 3 hours.
Happy shopping!
Customer Rating: Summary: It works Comment: Purchased as a DVR expander TW-Milwaukee SA 8300 HD. Came with esata cable plugged in,asked to format and married to DVR 1,2,3. So far everything works and storage space is huge (could easily have gotten by with 500 GB). I have one complain (yes the blus light is bright, ours is tucked behind the DVR so not an issue)I get digital hiccups more often with the external HD hooked-up. My DVR always had these digital pixel pauses once in a while, however they have increased. I suppose it could be my DVR it is a few years old, otherwise it works.
